Course description:
This class examines Asian American community, identity, culture and activism from a variety of angles: histories of immigration and diaspora, political and geographical movements, Minnesota and Twin Cities developments, the Internet, pop culture, intersectionality and denormalization, the lens of post-9/11, the lens of our bodies and violence. Mostly it’s about discovering the multiple realities of Asian America, close and personal. We will focus on Asian American activism as we see it in the Twin Cities, through guest speakers, field trips, and incredible hidden resources. We will also look at possibilities for a compilation class effort, such as a group blog or zine. We will be holding onto a feminist/queer perspective and analysis throughout the course. We seek people ready with questions, conversation, stories, and the desire to know how we go about building communities of love.
Class Time: 7 pm to 9 pm
Class Dates: Thursdays, September 25th through December 4th
Place: This course will rotate to different locations each week througout the Twin Cities.
