Course description:
It’s the 8th Annual Green Tomato Cook-Off!
This year’s event will be even bigger & better. The Green Tomato Society is proud to welcome Gardening Matters & EXCO as partners this year. This is the traditional Harvest Festival of the community gardeners in the old Phillips neighborhood, but has grown a life of its own!
Green Tomato Cook-Off
This is a cooking contest with one rule: Your dish must contain green tomatoes as an ingredient. We break it down into three categories; sweet, savory & condiment! But creativity & imagination are what it’s all about. Dishes must be available for judging by 6:15 pm. After that, it’s a potluck dinner that is open to all (and you KNOW you want to get in on that for sure). It’s OK to bring a non-contest dish, help out a bit, or just show up & eat.
Frying Green Tomatoes Skill Share
As part of the Gardening Matters/EXCO community gardening classes, there will be a skill share in frying green tomatoes that will be led by the Green Tomato Society’s resident expert, Dan Reddan.
Class Time: 6-8 pm, The Frying Green Tomato Skill Share will begin at 5:30 pm!!
Class Date: Thursday, October 23rd 2008
Place: St Paul’s Lutheran Church, 2742 15th Ave S, Minneapolis
Class size: All are welcome! Green Tomato entries must be submitted by 6:15 pm. Please register if you would like to participate in the Frying Green Tomato Skill Share. Space is limited to 6 people but the session will run 2or 3 times. Dress in fry wear & skill share will begin at 5:30!
What experience do you bring to this class?
Gardening Matters is an organization run by and for community gardeners, with a mission to promote and preserve community gardening throughout the Twin Cities metro region. Tapping into the resources and expertise of the gardening community, we serve as a central clearinghouse for community gardening resources in the Twin Cities. Gardening Matters has established relationships with experienced community (and master) gardeners in the area who are experts in a variety of skills (seed saving, heirloom plants, compost, etc.). This class would be an excellent way for Gardening Matters to tap into those networks and provide a venue for sharing those skills. More information can be found at www.gardenworksMN.org
