Course description:
Is there a connection between the oppression of the earth and the oppression of women and other minorities? In this class, we will explore this question through the study and discussion of Ecofeminism. This broad subject includes Ecofeminist Philosophy and extends to fields as diverse as economics and literature. We will share a few readings from authors such as Karen Warren, Vandana Shiva, and Barbara Kingsolver, and the main focus of the class will be discussion. This class has the potential to go in many directions, depending on the interests of the group.

What experience do you bring to this class?
I (Emily) have taken Environmental Ethics with Karen Warren, one of the preeminent ecofeminist philosophers in the U.S. I developed an interest in Ecofeminism and have read quite a bit about the subject. I would like to teach people more about it and promote discussion about the different aspects of the subject, and its applications to our everyday life.
